Victor Minkin's creation is an original phenomenon in domestic realistic art of the last decades. It is confirmed with his trend for traditions, professional culture, individual sight of the world and a distinctive method of cultural selection. Minkin is a master of an expressive, fine conveyed detail, which adds features of poetic summarizing and unique originality to his landscapes, still lives and portraits.
Being native of Malinovka village, Ryazan region, Viktor Minkin graduated from the Ryazan Art College and Graphic Art, Sculpture and Architecture Institute named after Repin. His creation is connected with Ryazan and Ungor village where he spent his childhood.
Recognition came to Minkin in late 1970's - early 1980's, when his works attracted attention at all-Union and republican exhibitions with the original interpretation of "country" subject. Russian village, its nature and people still occupy the central place in his works.
Early genre compositions and his fellow villagers portraits are remarkable for their sincerity, seriousness and detail level, with which Minkin painted what he was familiar with and what was really dear to him.
Lyrical turn of the artist's talent became apparent in full measure in his landscapes, still lives and chamber portraits in the second half of the 1980's. In unpretentious landscapes of his native land, in representation of ordinary everyday life Minkin achieves poetic expressiveness of the chosen subject.
Apparent simplicity is a distinctive feature of the portraits of artistic intelligentsia, family members, villagers, by which the artist asseverates the best man qualities, such as wisdom, kindness and dignity.
This is the portrait of a mechanic Victor Chistyakov, 1974, canvas/oil, 126*80. This is the painting that gave Victor Minkin his first reputation in the USSR. It was shown for the first time in the sity of Ivanovo at the Exhibition of the Central Region Painters in 1974. The painting was then bought by Ryazan art museum.
